A Little Mystery, A Lot of Heart: A Moving Statue

 

As a child, I was always drawn to stories. Any book I could get my hands on was enough to spark my curiosity, and that simple love for reading is something I still carry with me.

Recently, I got the opportunity to edit A Moving Statue, a collection of eight stories by Samir Ghoshal, published by Flydreams Publications. Working on the book was a pleasant experience because its stories bring together mystery, adventure, friendship, emotions, and simple life lessons in a way that can appeal to young readers. From the suspense surrounding a mysterious statue in the title story to tales of courage, friendship, animals, teachers, honesty, and loyalty, the collection offers plenty of variety. The simple language and illustrations also make it accessible to children and suitable for readers who are beginning to develop an interest in books.

While a few stories could have benefited from sharper sentence construction and some additional humour in the dialogues, the collection's warmth and sensitivity remain its biggest strengths. I was happy to be associated with A Moving Statue as its editor, and I hope these stories bring young readers the same sense of curiosity and joy that books brought to me as a child. Wishing Samir Ghoshal and Flydreams Publications the very best for the book.

Comics Character League 2024 (Round 2): A Thrilling Race to the Finals

 

The Comics Character League (CCL) Season 2 has been an intense competition, and Round 2, held from July 20 to July 27, 2024, was no exception. With each battle, the stakes grew higher as teams fought fiercely to secure their place in the finals. As Round 2 concludes, one finalist, Team 3, has already been determined, while the fate of the second finalist hangs in the balance, awaiting a tie-breaker battle.

Round 2 Recap: Dominance and Determination

Team 3, owned by Mohit Sharma, emerged as the dominant force in Round 2, winning all three of their matches and securing 7 points, along with an impressive vote share of 63.7%. Their victories included a narrow win over Team 8's Mahamanav by 4% on July 21, a resounding 32% margin victory against Team 6's Miss Killer on July 24, and a commanding 46% win over Team 7's Lomdi on July 27. This flawless performance earned Team 3 a well-deserved spot in the finals.

Meanwhile, the battle for the second spot in the finals remains undecided. Team 6, owned by Manoj Kumar Garg, and Team 8, led by Ravi Yadav, both finished Round 2 with 2 points each. Team 6 started strong with a 28% victory over Team 7's Kaal Paheliya on July 20 but struggled in subsequent matches, losing to Team 3's Shakti and Team 8's Doga. Similarly, Team 8 secured a win against Team 7's Motu-Patlu by 10% on July 23 but lost to Team 3 and Team 6.

Update: Team 7 Won the Tie-Breaker

Team 7, owned by Mohan Lal Mourya, also finished Round 2 with 2 points. Despite a challenging round, they managed to secure a victory against Team 8's Jingalu, winning by 10% votes on July 23. However, their other matches ended in defeats, leaving them in a precarious position with the lowest vote share of 39.3%.

The Tie-Breaker: A Last Chance for Glory

With Team 7, Team 6, and Team 8 all tied with 2 points and similar vote shares, the CCL organizers have announced a Tie-Breaker Battle to determine which of these teams will join Team 3 in the finals. The tie-breaker will feature one villain character from each of the three teams, and the character that garners the most votes will secure their team's place in the finals. The Tie-Breaker Battle is scheduled to take place tomorrow, following the announcement of the final Round 2 battle results. To ensure fairness, it has been decided that only villain characters can be selected for this battle. Each team has the option to choose one of their two available villains or swap in another villain character from any publication if they feel their current options aren't strong enough. There will be no toss; instead, each team must carefully consider their choice based on their own and their opponents' characters.

Looking Ahead: The Road to the Finals

As Round 2 comes to an end, the anticipation for the Tie-Breaker Battle builds. With Team 3 already securing their spot, the remaining teams must give their all in this last-chance battle. The finals of CCL Season 2 promise to be an epic showdown, and the Tie-Breaker Battle will be a decisive moment that fans won’t want to miss. Stay tuned as the Comics Character League continues to deliver thrilling battles and unforgettable moments!

मेरे देश की टीम बनाम निजी संस्था की टीम! (भारतीय क्रिकेट)

Japan (Women) cricket team - 2010 Asian Games Bronze Medalists

 जो बीत गया, उसे बदला नहीं जा सकता - लेकिन उससे सीख ज़रूर लेनी चाहिए। जहां पदक तालिका में जापान, अफ़गानिस्तान जैसे उभरते देशों को देखना अच्छा रहा, लेकिन फिर याद आया कि किसी द्विपक्षीय सीरीज़ की वजह से भारत ने एशियाई खेलों में जैसे थाली में सजा के रखे गए चार पदकों को नहीं लिया। पुरुष टीम का कैलेंडर आईपीएल आदि की वजह से समझ में आता है (वैसे यह वजह भी सही नहीं), पर महिलाओं को 2010 और 2014 के दो स्वर्ण पदक जीतने के लिए क्यों नहीं भेजा गया, मेरी समझ से परे है। अगर भारत अपनी रिज़र्व टीमें भी भेजे, तो स्वर्ण न सही पर पदक ज़रूर आ सकते हैं। 

उस समय इस बात पर काफ़ी हंगामा और कोर्ट केस भी हुआ था। अंत में लचीले कानूनों पर अमीर बीसीसीआई बोर्ड की जीत हुई और फ़ैसला दिया गया कि तकनीकी रूप से भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम - भारत की टीम न होकर, बीसीसीआई संस्था की टीम है। यह खबर जानकार बड़ी निराशा हुई। इस बाबत मैंने लल्लनटॉप मीडिया के एक कार्यक्रम में नामी भारतीय महिला क्रिकेटर शिखा पांडे से सवाल किया (और उन्हें जापान जैसे देशों के क्रिकेट में पदक जीतने का उदाहरण भी दिया), तो उन्होंने डिप्लोमेटिक से जवाब में बताया कि एक क्रिकेटर होने के नाते उनका मुख्य काम क्रिकेट खेलना है और बोर्ड की नीतियों या प्रबंधन के फ़ैसलों की उन्हें खास जानकारी नहीं है...सार्वजनिक मंच पर मुझे ऐसे ही जवाब की उम्मीद थी।

अब देखना है कि 2022 के खेलों में बीसीसीआई का क्या रुख रहता हैं।

स्वर्ण पदक वाले चोकर - दक्षिण अफ़्रीका क्रिकेट टीम

अपने देश के अलावा हम सभी की 1-2 पसंदीदा टीम होती हैं। अगर हमारी टीम आईसीसी टूर्नामेंट जैसे वर्ल्ड कप, चैंपियंस ट्रॉफ़ी या एशिया कप में हार जाती है, तो मन करता है कि खास हमारी दूसरी पसंदीदा टीम जीत जाए। भारत के बाद मेरे लिए वह टीम हमेशा दक्षिण अफ़्रीका रही। कुल जीत-हार के अनुपात में दक्षिण अफ़्रीका का रिकॉर्ड काफ़ी अच्छा है (लगभग 60% जीत की दर)। 1990 के दशक की शुरुआत में वापसी के बाद से अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट भारत, इंग्लैंड, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, पाकिस्तान जैसे देशों से कई सीरीज़ जीती हैं।

हालांकि, आईसीसी टूर्नामेंट में उन्हें चोकर का ताना मारा जाता है - कई बार बड़े टूर्नामेंट में सामने वाली टीम के अलावा डकवर्थ लुइस, बारिश आदि किस्मत के घटकों से इस टीम को हार मिली है, लेकिन कई देशों वाले एक गैर-आईसीसी टूर्नामेंट में उन्हें जीत मिली। मलेशिया में हुए 1998 के कॉमनवेल्थ या राष्‍ट्रमंडल खेलों में 16 देशों वाले फ़ॉर्मेट में क्रिकेट को शामिल किया गया था। फाइनल में उस समय जैसे अश्वमेघ यज्ञ का रथ दौड़ा रही ऑस्ट्रेलिया की लगाम दक्षिण अफ़्रीका ने पकड़ी और स्वर्ण पदक अपने नाम किया। इससे पहले सेमी-फाइनल में फिर लगने लगा था कि श्रीलंका उन्हें चोकर का तमगा पहना देगी। आखिर में, एक विकेट से जीत कर दक्षिण अफ़्रीका ने किस्मत को ठेंगा दिखा दिया। इस टूर्नामेंट में भारत ने अपनी कुछ हल्की टीम भेजी थी जिस वजह से हम पहला दौर पार नहीं कर पाए, लेकिन एक जांबाज़ टीम को मैडल जीतते देखना सुखद था। इस बात का दूसरा पहलु यह है कि दक्षिण अफ़्रीका ने फिर भी पदक जीता, बड़े टूर्नामेंट की ट्रॉफ़ी अभी बाकी है...देखते हैं, कितना इंतज़ार करना होगा।

Mohit Trendster beats UA and Jekyll for TWG League Championship

TWG League is a round-robin format league with 19 players. With people playing the game and adding skills, armor, moves etc to their builds for years its quite hard to win a league. That's why often same bunch of top 15 players win leagues on a regular basis. Well, not this time!

I bounced back from #16 in another league to grab the league title.

Mohit Trendster in Robomaniac Season 57 (L3) Finale

Won the last league match by 3-1 for silver medal. Since it is a round-robin format so the places are not decided in traditional knockout format. 

1 Point = 33.33% of energy bar damage and if one wins without any damage from opponent then they get a Bonus point. 33.33% of 730 (my total energy at that time) is 243.3 and the energy bar here says 250. I won silver by 0.66% margin.

Season 57 (League 3) standings

Raminad did everything right and even defeated me twice in this league but as luck would have it I defeated the table topper DH and got 2 victories against stronger Megamatik to level the points in the later stages of L3.
